E-biking in Zillertal: the best routes from Hintertux
14/08/2026

On two wheels. With twice the power.

Gravel tracks winding between larch trees, Alpine meadows bathed in light, a mountain lake that had seemed out of reach just an hour ago. Over 1,300 kilometres of bike routes criss-cross the Zillertal valley. And Adler Inn is located right where the best of them begin.

The silent equaliser
The e-bike solves a problem that nobody likes to talk about: different paces. Families in which the children pedal faster than their parents. Couples where one partner hasn’t touched a bike for years. Groups of friends where there’s a wide gap between fitness levels and ambition. The motor means all that is no longer an issue – and transforms it into a shared adventure. If you’re fit, switch to eco mode and still get your workout. If you want a more relaxed ride, just let the turbo do the work.

The Tuxertal valley as a playground
The flat 31-kilometre stretch along the Zillertal Cycle Route, which runs alongside the river, is the perfect starting point for anyone getting on a bike for the first time. If you’re looking for elevation gain, you’ll find it right on your doorstep: up to the Bichlalm hut at 1,726 metres above sea level, with views of the glacier from the sun terrace; via Loschboden to the Grieralm hut, where the mountains are reflected in tranquil Lake Griersee; or as a bike & hike to Stoankasern mountain cheese dairy and on foot to Lake Junssee – a mountain lake at 2,750 metres above sea level that hardly anyone knows about. The most challenging route takes you over the Tuxerjoch pass 2,313 metres above sea level: sharp bends, gravel, summit cross, panoramic view. And anyone who still has some energy left – whether in their own body or their bike – can tackle the Zillertal High Road, a 53-kilometre route above the tree line offering panoramic views across three mountain ranges.

Good to know
There’s a dense network of charging points in the Tuxertal valley; e-bikes are available to rent from sports shops, and if you don’t want to search for the best routes on your own, you can book a guided tour with a guide who knows the shortcuts that aren’t marked on any map.

Anni Stock takes care of the rest
Anyone returning to Adler Inn after a day in the saddle will find the best seat with Anni Stock. Homemade specialities, regional ingredients, dishes with character: her cuisine doesn’t need a turbo boost – it’s impressive enough on its own.
